Any member of our staff will tell you that helping bring new babies into the world makes for a good day on the job. Here are some pictures from a caesarean section we did last fall on an American Bully named Manga. Manga had six puppies - two females and four males. C-sections are a full team effort with the doctor performing the surgery, a licensed technician administering anesthesia and monitoring the patient's vitals, and all hands on deck to take the puppies as they are removed from the mom. When the puppies are removed from the uterus they have fluid in their lungs and airway, so they are held at a downward angle to allow gravity to help remove the fluid. They are also vigorously rubbed to stimulate them to start crying and breathing, taking large breaths into their newly cleared airways. Thank you to Manga and her owners for allowing us to share her story!
