This beautiful girl is named Tizie. Tizie is a one-year-old domestic shorthair that came to us earlier this summer for vomiting and not eating. Tizie's owners had noticed a couple days prior that she had been chewing on a pair of flip-flops in their home. When she came to us she had been acting lethargic, not wanting to eat or drink, was urinating but not producing stool, and had vomited some bile and little pieces of flip-flop rubber. Tizie stayed in the hospital with us on IV fluids overnight. The following morning she had a slight fever, was still not interested in eating food, and seemed more uncomfortable in her abdomen. At this point Dr. Timmer discussed Tizie's progress with her owner and got approval for exploratory surgery. Sure enough, once Dr. Timmer was in surgery with Tizie, she found a 1cm x 2cm piece of rubber sole from a flip-flop stuck in her duodenum (small intestine). With the piece of rubber removed Tizie was well on her way to making a full recovery. Later that evening Tizie's fever was resolved and she was in better spirits - asking for love and enjoying her pets from the staff. The following day she was eating canned food and purring, so she was ok'd to go home by Dr. Timmer.
